Transport for West Midlands
David has nearly 20 years’ experience working in transport in the public sector, developing and implementing plans and policies which have substantial social, environmental, economic and political impact. He has a keen interest in sustainable urban mobility and ensuring that transport plays its part in creating a zero carbon inclusive society.
David started his career in 2000 working in South West Trains’ Business Planning team in London, moving into local Government with Surrey County Council’s public transport development team in 2002. In 2005 he joined Birmingham City Council where he became Transport Policy Manager in 2014. David played a key role in a number of major initiatives at Birmingham including Birmingham Connected; the city’s transport strategy, the Birmingham Development Plan, developing and implementing strategic parking policy, implementing ultra-low emission vehicle charging infrastructure and leading on the development of the business case for the introduction of Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone.
Since 2018 he has been Transport Strategy & Place Manager for Transport for West Midlands with a focus on developing transport strategy for the West Midlands Combined Authority which seeks to better integrate transport and land use planning activities. A key area of work for his team now is the refresh of the West Midlands statutory local transport plan and shaping the regional transport response to the climate emergency agenda.
