A survey of more than 2,500 rail passengers conducted before the current lockdown reveals the overwhelming majority feel safe on trains and at stations.
And while most are reasonably satisfied with the cleanliness of trains and stations – a significant number believe the cleanliness of station toilets needs to improve.
Conducted in August 2019 among Transport Focus’s Transport User Panel, 88% of respondents said they only occasionally or never feel unsafe when travelling by train, while 76% of described their personal security at the station where they boarded the train as ‘good’.
In terms of the quality of stations and their facilities, station cleanliness tends to be rated well while toilets are rated poorly. Those who rate their personal security at the station as ‘poor’ are more likely to rate station facilities similarly.
