Tower Transit orders electric buses for London route

Metrocity electric bus

Net zero carbon electric bus and light commercial vehicle company Switch Mobility is providing bus operator Tower Transit with 12 Metrocity E-Buses.

The fleet of Metrocitys will be deployed on Route 339, operating out of Lea Interchange and running between Shadwell and Leytonstone. Route 339 will be the first full EV Route run out of Lea Interchange.

Switch says its Metrocity electric bus is one of the most efficient electric buses in the UK. Combining a 250kwh NMC battery with a lightweight monocoque platform, the bus provides range of up to 180 miles with a charging time of below three hours.

Tower Transit will be the first customer for the updated 9.4m Metrocity and delivery of the vehicles is expected to commence early next year.

Andy Palmer, executive vice chairman and CEO of Switch Mobility, said: “Switch is proud to supply the most efficient electric buses in the UK and we are delighted to be working with Tower Transit to electrify Route 339.

“Our Metrocity product is perfectly suited to the requirements of London’s roads and passengers on this route will soon be able to travel knowing that their journey will be carbon neutral, supporting a greener planet.”
