Smart Transport is to host a free webinar providing expert insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the freight and logistics industry over the next 30 years.
The session, which will be sponsored by FedEx and AECOM, takes place on April 9 at 11am and is hosted by Stephen Briers, editor-in-chief of Smart Transport and Fleet News. The webinar replaces the seminar session at the Smart Transport Conference on March 17, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Experts from across the freight and logistics industry will offer their thoughts in three 15-minute sessions before taking part in a Q&A panel.
The expert panel includes Maggie Simpson, director general of the Rail Freight Group, who will be assessing the role of rail in the delivery of freight and how that transport mode will evolve in the future.
Trevor Hoyle, FedEx senior vice president ground operations Europe, will look at the role of logistics as an essential service, which has been put into particular focus by the massive demand on this sector during the coronavirus pandemic. He will look at the opportunities for logistics and urban planning in the coming decades.
Completing the session will be a presentation by John Hix, head of freight and logistics at infrastructure firm AECOM. He will give an overview of the current and future trends in the industry and will suggest solutions the sector needs to adopt to meet the biggest challenges it faces now and in the future.
