BEIS extends tender deadlines for smart meter-enabled EV charging trial

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has extended the tender deadlines for those applying for its smart meter-enabled electric vehicle charging trial.

The tender process has been pushed back by two weeks in recognition of the difficulties being encountered by businesses during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Companies have until April 21 to confirm their intention to submit a tender and will then have until May 15 to submit their tender.

The project, Beyond Off Street, is a Government initiative to promote innovation and demonstrate how smart meters can offer a long-term solution for smart EV charging.

Smart meters allow drivers to plug their EV and automatically charge at the cheapest, lowest carbon point, rather than over the expensive evening peak.

BEIS is looking for two independent companies to design, build, test and trial smart EV charging points which use the smart metering system for on-street and workplace charging.

Companies should email [email protected] before 21 April to be in with a chance of getting involved in the project.

Extended deadlines:

  • April 21, 2020, 17.00, to confirm your intention to submit a tender. Put ‘Beyond Off Street’ in the subject line
  • April 22, 2020, 17.00, with questions relating to the tender. Put ‘Q&A’ in the subject line
  • May 15, 2020, 12.00 midday, to submit your tender. Mark your tender as ‘TENDER’ and put ‘TENDER’ in the subject line
